New boutique in New Fairfield offers clothing that ‘keeps up with trends in a classy manner’
NEW FAIRFIELD — With midriff-baring and skintight fashion back in style, Nicole Sudano decided to open a boutique for women like herself who aren’t looking to jump on the bandwagon but still want to look trendy.
“Once I became a mom and would go shopping, the only things I could find in actual stores were crop tops and skin-tight clothing,” she said. “It’s hard to even find a hoodie that’s not cropped these days.”
With limited in-store clothing options, Sudano turned to online shopping — but that, too, she said “can be a pain in the butt.”
“Not only do you have to wait for it to come in,” she said, “but you might not like it and that can be a problem if you have an event to go to and don’t have time or anything else to wear.”
Sudano decided to take matters into her own hands and open The Trend Co. in New Fairfield’s Heritage Plaza on Route 39.
“I wanted to offer clothing that keeps up with trends in a classy manner,” said Sudano, whose boutique officially opened Thursday.
The Trend Co. offers a wide selection of women’s clothing and accessories.
“We have anything and everything — dresses for different occasions, rompers, shorts and jeans, sunglasses, candles, and bath and body stuff,” Sudano said. “We even carry shapewear.”
Sudano said most of the clothes sold at her boutique run in small, medium and large, but there are also pieces that come in extra-small up to extra-large sizes.
“The other main thing about the store is it’s affordable,” she said, noting the most expensive clothing item is a $78 dress. “The majority of items are under $44.”
Sudano said her goal is for everyone who comes into The Trend Co. to leave the store feeling confident.
“I don’t want to just sell something — I want them to walk out feeling like they cannot wait to wear what they just bought,” she said.
Although she doesn’t have direct experience, Sudano said she’s no stranger to the world of retail.
“My sister owned stores in New Jersey for 10 years, and I would go with her anytime she went to do her buying at shows in Las Vegas and the fashion district in California,” she said.
Sudano, who moved to New Fairfield from Putnam County, N.Y. a year-and-a-half ago, said she believes The Trend Co. will make a great addition to the town’s retail offerings.
“New Fairfield could be such an awesome town,” she said. “It has the small town vibe, and every town needs something for women other than nail salons.”
In addition to opening her brick and mortar store, Sudano said she’s also working to launch an online website where people can browse and buy items from The Trend Co. and have them shipped nationwide.
“That should be ready at the end of the month,” she said.
